Korean American Senior Resource Fair Hosted by City of Buena Park

Students Against Scams joined the Korean American Senior Resource Fair in Buena Park on March 14, 2026, an event organized by the City of Buena Park and the nonprofit KCSINC.org and hosted by the Ehlers Senior Community Center at 8150 Knott Ave.  The fair brought together over 300 community members seeking support with healthcare, housing, and financial well-being, and our booth stood alongside other vital service providers throughout the morning.

Throughout the day, our team met seniors and caregivers who spoke Korean, English, and several other languages, underscoring a truth we repeat often:

Scammers do not discriminate.

They target everyone, in every language.

We shared free scam‑prevention education tailored to the concerns we heard most, from impostor phone calls to suspicious investment opportunities. Many visitors were surprised to learn how convincing modern scams can be, especially when fraudsters spoof caller IDs or pose as government agencies.

A major highlight was demonstrating SasoGPT, our free AI fraud‑detection tool designed to help seniors and families quickly assess suspicious messages or offers. Attendees practiced inputting real examples of texts and emails they had received, and left with clear steps for staying safer online and over the phone. Partnering on‑site with the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation added extra credibility and resources, allowing us to connect visitors with state‑level support when needed.

Beyond information, the fair offered concrete services, including help applying for or renewing Medi‑Cal and CalFresh benefits, access to CalOptima health resources, general health and dental screenings, mental health and wellness counseling, and housing information.  Together, these services created a holistic safety net that protects seniors’ bodies, minds, and finances. As we packed up our booth at the end of the event, we felt energized by the conversations, stories, and gratitude shared—and more committed than ever to ensuring that no senior faces scammers alone.
